Vergence Control in a Binocular Vision System using Weightless Neural Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a methodology that we have developed and used to implement an artificial binocular vision system capable of emulating the vergence eye movements. This methodology involves using Weightless Neural Networks (WNNs) as building blocks of artificial vision architectures. Using the proposed methodology, we have designed several WNN based architectures in which images captured by virtual cameras are used for controlling the position of these cameras’ “fovea” (high resolution region of the cameras’ image). Our best architecture is able to control the foveae vergence movements with average error of only 3.6 image pixels, which is equivalent to an angular error of approximately 0.615.

Binocular eye movements in health and disease
ABSTRACT Binocular eye movements form a finely-tuned system that requires accurate coordination of the oculomotor dynamics and supports the vergence movements for tracking the fine binocular disparities required for 3D vision, and are particularly susceptible to disruption by brain injury and other neural dysfunctions. Saccadic dynamics for a population of 84 diverse participants show tight coe...

متن کاملA neural model of binocular saccade planning and vergence control
The human visual system uses saccadic and vergence eye movements to foveate visual targets. To mimic this aspect of the biological visual system the PC/BC-DIM neural network is used as an omni-directional basis function network for learning and performing sensory-sensory and sensory-motor transformations without using any hardcoded geometric information. A hierarchical PC/BC-DIM network is used...
متن کاملVergence Dynamics Predict Fixation Disparity
The neural origin of the steady-state vergence eye movement error, called binocular fixation disparity, is not well understood. Further, there has been no study that quantitatively relates the dynamics of the vergence system to its steady-state behavior, a critical test for the understanding of any oculomotor system. We investigate whether fixation disparity can be related to the dynamics of op...

Based on the characteristics of binocular vergence eye movements, A new type of method to reduce blind areas caused by double cameras in motion platform was put forward, and a model for control binocular vergence eye movements was established according to neural pathways of human binocular oculomotor system. With the model, it is guaranteed that target areas can remain in the public vision fiel...
